What do they always blame the cold?!?

I guess people feel that they need to offer an excuse before they start because they're shy. They most often convince themselves that they have a cold and thats the reason why they don't sound better. Then the critique won't be as harsh and they won't take it seriously even if it is harsh because after all they are "sick" and their voice will always get "better" when they're not.
