Chances of getting into NYU? Columbia?

I don't think that a lot of what you listed should have anything to do with getting accepted. Who cares whether or not you live in Pennsylvania? It shouldn't make a difference as to whether you get accepted. As to your volunteering service, a lot of people have had much more than you have done, and the admissions officers have seen basically all applicants with many volunteer hours (usually in the 300+ range). C'est bon que tu parles la langue francaise, et si tu pes les SATs francaises, tu sembleras comme une personne intelligente. As to your clarinet, that should be a feather in your cap; it'll probably help you if you present them with CDs of your performances/auditions. Your grades are well enough for NYU, but it might be pushing it for Columbia. But who knows? I know people who get into Ivy League schools with medium-range SAT scores and school grades. You definitely have enough extracurricular activities; now become more in depth with them. Good luck!
