Were the American colonists justified in declaring their independence from England in 1776? Why?
There were taxes on gl, tea, and paper. But the thing was the paper was actually all official doents submitted for anything really so whenever you did any paperwork you had to pay a tax. That was not popular with anyone. And there was also the feeling that the colonists were being unjustly treated as less than Englishmen when in reality they were Englishmen. Then there were other small things that happened that did however have a large reason for rebellion even though they shouldn't have. For example the Boston Macre was not a macre; 11 people were hit, one died instantly (an African American sailor - no one really cared for a black man) and two other men died later of wounds. And it was also proven by John Adams that the incident was the fault of an American who was yelling fire from behind the soldiers making them think that it was their captain ordering it.
