How can i find out my status on my gun permit?

i live in Newark NJ and a couple moths ago i applied for a gun permit, i called them a month after my application was submitted and the guy i spoke to told me that all my papers were in and good except the mental health form which they have no jurisdiction on, how can i check my status on the permit without calling them because i just recently called them and nobody picks up.???
